What we say…
College Pines golf course is situated on the outskirts of Worksop, Nottinghamshire. It is one of the younger courses in the area and without doubt overshadowed by its neighbours, Worksop Golf Club and Lindrick Golf Club which are both steeped in history. However do not take this as a reason not to visit this course. A warm welcome awaits you at the club house, which boasts a knowledgeable pro-shop, a welcoming bar/restaurant area with a large collection of golfing memorabilia is on show throughout the clubhouse.
The course was designed by professional David Snell and is run by his family. The course surrounded by the picturesque Clumber Park and the grounds of Worksop College, hence the name.
College Pines is open all year round, providing the opportunity to play on full greens regardless of the weather conditions. You will find everything you need to enjoy your round of golf here. Although a private members club, College Pines welcomes visitors and societies.
The course is a great course for beginners and higher handicappers, whilst still providing a challenge for the better player, especially if the wind blows.
The fairways are wide and inviting, although wayward shots will find the troublesome rough, which requires brute strength to advance the ball down the fairway. Fair punishment, for missing the large fairways.
The greens are superb, lightening fast and true in the summer, dry and true in the winter, exactly what a golf course should be, and for a course that is relatively young in comparison to many of the surrounding courses.
You are eased into the round with a mid length par 5 which, for longer hitters is comfortably reachable, a good chance to get your game of to a flying start, although you are soon reminded of the length and difficulty of the course on the second a long challenging par four.
Hole 8 is a risk – reward classic, a short gentle dog leg par 4 which for the brave is reachable from the tee. Hole 10 is a great par 4, long requiring 2 accurate golf shots.
The par 3’s here offer a fantastic mix of long and short holes, with varying difficulties.
The finish provides a good opportunity to claw back a few shots with 2 par 5s in the final 3 holes.
In summary for those who are looking for a course that provides year round golf at competitive prices, then you should pay a visit to College Pines. It is an all round golf course, which offers all the basic amenities a golfer requires to enjoy a wonderful day out.
